Stored volume is the primary metric — the total size of your objects after erasure coding overhead is excluded, so you pay for what you stored, not for the 1.5× expansion we add for durability. Request volume and egress are within fair-use limits for the base tiers. The precise definition is being finalised and will be stated in the terms before general availability.
No. Rebuilding shards when a provider fails is part of the service, not an event you get billed for. Repair happens whether or not you read the data, and charging for it would create an incentive we do not want.
No. Fifteen shards at 1.5× expansion is how we achieve the durability, and it is our cost of doing business. You are quoted and billed on logical stored volume.
There is no per-gigabyte egress charge in the base tiers. Reads go directly from providers to your client rather than through our infrastructure, so we do not have the bandwidth cost structure that makes egress billing attractive to conventional providers.
Contracts covering your shards remain funded for the period already paid for, so data is not deleted the moment an invoice fails. You retain a window to export or resume, and your placement records remain retrievable. In the extreme case where nothing is renewed at all, shards remain retrievable from providers for at least 60 days.
Yes, on the Enterprise tier. The provider pool can be constrained to a set of jurisdictions, at some cost to price and provider diversity. We will be candid about that trade-off during the conversation.
No. Credentials are free to provision and free to revoke. Additional credentials with independent caps are a feature of the paid tiers, not a line item.
That is our problem, deliberately. We hold and fund the storage contracts with providers and settle with them ourselves. You are invoiced in your own currency and never interact with the underlying market, hold any asset, or price anything denominated in it.
